The Next Level: Partnering with This Old House
Once in a lifetime opportunities are notorious for being scarce… after all, the name basically says it all! Once. In. A. Lifetime.
But, in 2018 Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods was presented the opportunity to partner with America’s leading home design and renovation brand — This Old House — on not one, BUT TWO occasions: the 2018 Idea House and the Jamestown Net-Zero Project House.
It all started with a March 2018 phone call from TOH to see if Baird Brothers had any interest in participating (to which their obvious response was, “Absolutely. Let’s see what it’s all about!”).
Fast forward just two short months and Baird Brothers was operating full steam ahead! The material lists had been created, everything was priced out and products were being shipped piecemeal to both of the TOH Rhode Island project homes.
2018 Idea House
The 2018 Idea House, located in Narragansett, Rhode Island, was built with an endless amount of style and custom features.
The Craftsman-style bungalow holds tons (literally) of Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods’ products: quartersawn white oak flooring and black walnut border inset, cherry ceiling trays, hardwood interior doors, stair parts and shiplap on just the first floor alone!
“Our philosophy has always been to go big or go home,” says second-generation owner Terry Baird. “Partnering with This Old House put us on a stage like we’d never been on before, but we certainly weren’t going to shy away from the opportunity. Our entire team worked together to deliver a houseful of top-quality, custom hardwood products, and the experience was flawless.”
The 2,700-square-foot home provides next-level inspiration, whether you’re building from the ground up or simply enhancing the interior or exterior of your home. It’s filled with built-ins, warm hardwood flooring and trim and offers up endless ideas for gathering spaces and outdoor entertainment.

2018 Jamestown Net-Zero Project House
If you’re passionate about home design or renovation, then you’re well aware of the fact that This Old House is the industry benchmark — paving the way long before HGTV reno shows hit cable television.
Originally the brainchild of Russell Morash, This Old House was created to be “more than a working model of rehab hints for homeowners and do-it-yourselfers. It expands viewers’ perceptions of what a home can be.”
So, when presented with the opportunity to participate in the 40th anniversary season of This Old House, Baird Brothers jumped at the chance.
The Jamestown Net-Zero House is a 1920s cottage located in Jamestown, Rhode Island that meets the needs of its energy-conscious homeowners by being super efficient and producing all the energy required to operate the home.
Watch each episode and see how the property transforms right in front of your eyes (and be on the lookout for some great Baird Brothers hardwood products).

A TWICE in a Lifetime Experience
Nine months, multiple truckloads of product and 13 episodes later, Baird Brothers’ completed its first partnership with This Old House, and the experience could not have been better!
“We got the chance to work with so many great people throughout the course of these projects,” said Steve Stack, sales director at Baird Brothers. “From Sweenor Builders to the Powers family (owners of the Net-Zero House) to our contacts at This Old House, it was a top-notch experience — the kind of quality that This Old House has always portrayed.”
