A custom interior door surrounded by custom casing and crown moulding.

Lets face it, those generic stock options from big box stores just don’t cut it – especially when you want your home to reflect your unique style.

Custom wood doors, by comparison, deliver that extra wow factor each and every time. But not all doors are built the same, and in order to truly get what you’re looking for, you need to partner with an experienced company staffed with expert craftsmen. That’s where Baird Brothers comes in!

(Sidenote: If you’re on a tighter budget or timeline, we also have some stunning designs already available – the only customization needed is to pick your favorite wood species!)

Old home remodeled on Renovation Hunters near the Nebraska Sandhills.

In early 2022, Hal Shaffer and Chris Filardi gave general contractor Kevin Tarkovich a tour of a historic home in Hyannis, Nebraska. They intended to give new life to the property, as the first project on their new Outdoor Channel series, Renovation Hunters, but the term makeover was an understatement for this 19th-century home, to say the least.

Host Hal Shaffer reassured Kevin on the challenge of renovating the main street’s focal point saying, “You can take all the time you want, as long as it’s done in eight days!” So, they got to work on remodeling old homes for their show – starting in the Sandhills of Nebraska – with the help of numerous craftsmen and DIY-ers, along with some awesome brand partners (if we do say so ourselves).

Modern barn home designs don’t have to be plain — Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods has products that help you bring a modern feel to this type of traditionally-styled house.

This Old House’s Modern Barnhouse Idea House, located near St. Paul in Afton, Minnesota, is a master class in designing with nature in mind while building for today’s style. This 2021 Idea House was the brainchild and dream home of Amy Matthews, and the plans she developed with D/O Architects Colin Oglesbay and Aaron McCauley-Aburto outlined a 3,800 square-foot barnhouse with an open floor plan and plenty of windows. The plans were brought to life by builder Chad Maack and his team at Hartman Homes.

Premium Hardwood Bars are the Centerpiece of Man Caves

Did you know the term “man cave” was popularized in the 1992 book Women are from Venus, Men are from Mars? The theory is that when something troubles the Venusians, they’ll group together with others from Venus and talk it out. When Martians feel perplexed, they go to their cave to be alone and think things through.

Male/female analysis aside, what a man cave really boils down to is a cool space for Dad that’s fabulous, functional and fits his style. “The man cave is all about taking advantage of square footage in the basement and turning it into livable space,” said Baird Brothers’ Steve Stack. “And the ultimate gathering spot for that space is the bar.” Customers can provide sketches, drawings, plans or layouts and Baird Brothers will work with them to come up with a list of project materials for their one-of-a-kind bar. In this Hardwood Advisor, Steve shares some customers’ gorgeous finished home basement bar projects.
