Third Generation Business Rising To The Challenge

The number of active, third-generation family members increases as Baird Brothers realizes growth in the Valley and beyond

Canfield, OH: Along with several other exciting developments that lay on the horizon of 2021, Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods in Canfield, OH is steadily moving into its third generation as a family-owned company.

Recently, three members of the third generation were added to the ranks, joining three others and bringing the total of third-generation staff to six: Dillon Burdette, Sarah Schaefer and Zach Baird, joining Benny Baird, Tyler Baird and Brandon Burdette.

“I was 16 years old when my brothers and I started this business, basically in our backyard,” says Paul Baird, co-owner at Baird Brothers. “We’ve certainly grown over the years, and we’ve been lucky to have several great new hires, including several of our own young family members.”

Moving into its 61st year, Baird Brothers’ continuous growth remains steady, thanks to the perseverance of 125+ dedicated staff members and several partnerships (including multiple years working directly with the This Old House organization). The company has also recently expanded its sales staff and looks forward to solidifying its industry-leading mindset into the third generation and beyond.

Currently, 14 members of the Baird family are active in business operations.

According to The Family Business Institute, only 12 percent of family-owned businesses operate into the third generation. However, those businesses that make it into multi-generational status tend to develop a greater environment for innovation as more generations become actively involved.

“Seeing family members become part of your business is something, I think, every entrepreneur dreams of seeing. We are very lucky,” says Paul.
